"Engage abortion."
Two words from God in 2015. Eleven years and babies later, I'm still on the sidewalk.
In 2015, God burned two words into my heart: engage abortion. I was a pastor in Smyrna, Tennessee. I didn't even know where abortions happened in my own city.
So I went and found out. I started standing outside, talking to moms on their way in, offering them love, truth, and a way forward. Babies started living. By 2019, with hundreds of rescues behind me, I resigned from the pastorate to do this full time.
Why I stay
I'm very grateful for the people that were there for me when I was stuck. So when a mom is stuck, I want to be that person for her. That's why the rescue is never the end. I walk with these families for years.
Some of the best people in my life came from the sidewalk. My friend Glenn met me in a Panera because of a pro-life shirt, and he stood with me in Nashville several times a week until the day he went home to be with the Lord. My friend "Kid" walked up and asked what I was doing. Years later I found out why it mattered so much to him. He's a survivor of abortion.
Where you'll find me
On the streets of Nashville, Carbondale and Granite City, St. Louis, Memphis, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Asheville, Bristol and Dayton, and wherever a church asks me to come. On Sundays I still love being behind a pulpit, and I preach regularly at Cross Roads Cowboy Church in Bon Aqua, Tennessee.
Lynde and I met at Belmont University in 1992 and have been married since 1995.
